Summit bike challenge at Moran State Park

The Summit Bike Challenge, a casual ride through Moran State Park from Cascade Lake to Cascade Falls, Mt. Lake or the Summit, to raise money for Moran State Park projects will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7. Check-in for this family and community fun ride will be at 10 a.m. and the ride will start at 10:30 a.m from the Cascade Lake Shelter at Moran State Park. Tables along the route will be staffed by volunteers with healthy snacks and water. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for kids under 12 years of age.

Those who register early will receive a $5 entry fee discount. All ride participants must wear a buckled helmet. Registration forms are available at Wildlife Cycles, Eastsound Sporting Goods, Orcas Rec and the Chamber Office or online at www.friendsofmoran.com. A t-shirt for the ride will be available to be picked up during registration.

All proceeds will benefit Moran State Park projects such as the fish hatchery, weather station, and Interpretive Center planned for 2010. According to organizers the Moran State Park Interpretive Center will educate and emphasize the significance of the environment, inform visitors about the unique qualities of the park and the responsibilities of park preservation. It will illustrate the park’s geology, botany, cultural history, archeological attributes and conservation efforts. For more information call 376-3111.
