Athletic Director Vicki Vandermay starts her fifth year at the controls of Viking sports.

Stuffed in a tiny office off the school gym, Vandermay probably gets more done per square foot of office space than anyone, and remains dedicated and positive as she directs schedules, transportation, student and coaches’ needs, paperwork, eligibility protocol and coaches’ training.

Despite the aforementioned tasks in constant flux, Vandermay still enjoys her job as she takes a breath to talk about the opening of fall sports.

“We are off to a great start, however, our football numbers are low so we are playing an eight-man schedule, which means no Island Cup since Friday Harbor is playing 11-man,” Vandermay said. “We are looking for more players. Our soccer roster numbers are good on both the girls and boys teams, volleyball numbers are good and we have five cross country athletes.”
