Orcas High School Senior
Vikings baseball kicked off their season with a doubleheader against Mount Vernon Christian on March 16. It was the first game at Buck Park since 2019. Orcas and MVC battled throughout the first game of the day, but Orcas was able to pull into the lead at the bottom of the sixth inning with a hit through the gap between first and second base by Jefferson Freeman, allowing Matthew Eggenburg to score what would end up being the winning run. The Vikings held the Hurricanes at the top of the seventh, ending with a victory of 5-4. The second game of the day ended in MVC’s favor with a score of 3-13.
Orcas will be back out on the field on March 23 for another doubleheader against the Coupeville Wolves. This will be followed by an away matchup against La Conner on March 26 and another home game on March 27, where the Vikings will take on the Friday Harbor Wolverines in a doubleheader.
The Vikings Softball team faced off against the Coupeville Wolves on the road on March 13, making this the first game for Orcas sports in over a year. The Vikings fought throughout the game, however, the wolves took the win with a final score of 0-10 at the end of the sixth inning. The following week, the Vikings began to prepare for their next faceoff against the wolves, which will be a doubleheader to take place on March 23 at home. After the matchup against Coupeville, the Vikings will head to La Conner on March 26 and then head back home for a doubleheader against the Friday Harbor Wolverines on March 27.
On March 18, the Vikings Golf team went head to head with La Conner for their first match of the season. Tayla Malo finished with a score of 52, Lili Malo a 78 and Bethany Carter ended with an 85. The team headed to Cedarcrest for a match on March 22, followed by a match against Lummi on March 25.
