The Orcas Island Vikings played the Concrete Lions in an away game on Feb. 5.
We played great all around with outstanding defense in different stretches of the game. We won, 58-47. This season has been great for building up a group of good young players.
I think that everyone has learned a lot this season about playing varsity against older, more experienced guys. We lost six varsity players, and only two varsity guys returned. We had five new players joining our varsity team: Leonai Van Putten, August Groeninger, Daniel Keyes, Levi Moss and Kupono Anuenue. They did a great job and worked hard to learn new plays and defenses in the faster, more physical play of varsity basketball.
Sadly, the Concrete game was the last for seniors Anuenue, Moss and Luke Pietsch. We are very excited for years to come and see new young players developing into great varsity players.
